Forgiveness: The Fragrance and the Fire

“Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.” – Mark Twain

INTRODUCTION

There comes a moment in every healing journey when we realize—we can’t carry it anymore.

The weight.

The silence.

The anger we’ve dressed in strength.

Forgiveness isn’t about forgetting.

It’s not about pretending it didn’t matter.

It’s about choosing to be free.

WHY FORGIVENESS MATTERS

Forgiveness is often thought of as soft, quiet, passive. But it’s not.

It’s powerful.

It’s the brave act of releasing what was never ours to hold forever.

It’s not about going back—it’s about reclaiming our right to move forward.

In this post, you’ll find:

A song to help you feel the full arc of forgiveness A ritual to guide your release A journal prompt for deeper reflection Visual art pieces that carry the energy of both softness and strength

WHAT YOU’LL FIND HERE

This offering is a blend of fire and fragrance.

It’s for the ones who are ready to untie the knot.

To let go.

To let themselves rise.

Take what resonates.

Leave what doesn’t.

This is your space to feel, reflect, and breathe.

You’re not late.

You’re right on time.

And you’re not alone anymore.

Forgiveness: The Fragrance and the Fire

There’s a moment in every journey when you realize—

you can’t carry it anymore.

The weight. The story. The ache that lingers in your chest.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting.

It doesn’t mean excusing what broke you.

It means releasing what’s been holding you back

—so you can walk forward unbound.

In this space, we explore forgiveness as both a fragrance and a fire.

As something soft… and something fierce.

As a sacred act of reclaiming your power,

and returning home to your own peace.

Take what you need from this offering.

Let it meet you where you are.

And when you’re ready…

set down the weight.

You deserve to be free.

Fragrance and Fire

1. Forgiveness Ritual: “Unbinding”

What you’ll need:

A small piece of fabric, string, or ribbon A quiet space A candle (optional) A pen and paper

The Ritual:

Settle In – Light your candle if using. Breathe. Let your body soften. Write It Out – On paper, write what you’re forgiving. This could be a name, a moment, or even yourself. Hold the Thread – Take your string or fabric and gently tie a knot in it for every weight you’ve carried—every betrayal, heartbreak, silence, or self-blame. Speak This Aloud (or whisper): “This is mine no longer. I unbind myself from this weight. I choose freedom, and I choose me.” Untie or Burn – Slowly untie each knot. Or, if it feels right and safe, burn the paper with your words on it. Close With This: “Forgiveness is the fragrance that rises from my release. I am no longer bound. I am free.”

2. Journal Prompt:

What part of me is still waiting for permission to let go?

And what might my life feel like if I set that weight down today?
